QCPL
Friday Night League Meeting
January
29, 2025, 7 PM
Davignon
Club
Attending: Lenny
Pappas Jr, Bob Gagne, Ron Michaud, Eric Melanese, Keith Kaz, John Laliberte, Sue Novak (I may have forgotten a couple of
captains – Sorry)
1.
PLAYER DUES - We always have a
difficult time collecting player money each half! It also seems to always be the same captains
that we are chasing for money. Lenny
suggested that if the captains have not turned in their second half money by
the end of the doubles that any match an unpaid player has played in becomes a
zero. It was pointed out that this
penalizes the entire team for only a few players. If we do this Sue will need to know who has
not paid so that she can go back and adjust the score. Since it is the team captain’s
responsibility to turn in the money and we only get the team name on the
envelope when turned in, this would be time consuming and probably not
possible.
The final decision was to make sure the money is
turned in by the 4th week of the half (partial payment of player
dues will be accepted, with the captain being responsible for who on their team
paid). If a player does not pay by the 4th
week deadline, then unpaid players should be dropped from the roster. This is still a hardship for the team as some
may not have enough players on a Friday night.
2.
LEAGUE ACCOUNTING – John Laliberte asked where all the money
went since we are only paying the League Champion Team. Lenny pointed out the money goes to the
banquet, six pocket runs, the table games, gift cards given out at the banquet
and Sue’s fee for maintaining stats and Friday results/standings. We do keep a small amount in the bank account
at the end of the year. This is to make
sure we maintain an open bank account and to pay for the web site every five
years and Sue’s fee ($200). After the
meeting Sue called Tom to find out how much was in the account at the beginning
of the year. He stated we had $456.18 at
the end of the 2023-2024 Season.
Someone suggested that instead of
paying the first place team we should offer more players recognition at the
banquet. For example – most improved,
biggest upset, MVP, etc. No real
decision was made and will be discussed at next meeting.
3.
TEAM HANDICAP CAP - A team cap on handicap per night was suggested. It was pointed out that one of the reasons
this is difficult is because players like to be on the same team as their
friends. They don’t want to be drafted
to a team where they don’t know who their teammates are or may not like
playing/drinking with simply to meet a handicap limit. It is conceivable that we could have even
fewer players and/or teams if we started “drafting players” so that a handicap
cap can be met. Since no one can come up
with a figure for the cap and a reasonable way to make it work, it was tabled
until next year.
4.
Names
were given to the handicap committee (Ron Michaud, Eric Milanese, Bob Gagne,
Sue Novak and Lenny Pappas Jr. – tie breaker) for rating discussion. They met after the meeting and the follow
players were adjusted. Several others
were brought up for discussion and stats did not warrant a change in rating at
this time.
Kyle Sariceno
- up 6.5 Dana Blanchette
- up 4.5 John Arel - up 5.5
Bob Patten - down 4.5 Rick Campbell - down 4.5 Jose Enriquez - up 5.5
Tom LeBlanc - down 4.0 Dave Boulton - up
5.0
Kyle Sariceno
was automatically brought up as he had been discussed at the beginning of the
year. At that time, it was felt due to
his injury and the fact he was on crutches and non weight-bearing, we should wait
until he was back on his feet.
5.
Next
meeting will be at the Cercle National on March 6th
at 7 PM.
